At a historic moment dominated by the arrogance of the powerful, serving the self-serving and private interests of a few, we want to continue proposing an alternative way of life based on respect for individuals, peoples, human rights, and international law; on solidarity with everyone, starting with those most in need; and on the defense of the commons, the environment, peace, and the future of the next generations and the planet. A small yet significant pocket of resistance built on daily sharing, concrete work, and nonviolent struggle for change and justice.
WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT
It is an experience of sharing within the Emmaus community in Boves with the Emmaus community members—people who, thanks to their work and a simple lifestyle, break free from the welfare system, tackle their own challenges, and take direct charge of their own personal development by actively engaging and working concretely for others. It is, therefore, a matter of “being with” (being together, sharing) and, at the same time, “being for” (peace, the environment, solidarity, justice)—side by side in daily life, in ideals, and in the struggle.

This is a volunteer experience within Emmaus’s traditional activities: collecting and salvaging used items from homes and the Emmaus center, sorting the collected and salvaged items, and subsequently organizing, assembling, displaying, and selling them at the Emmaus solidarity flea markets in Boves, Cuneo, and Mondovì. This is an important activity from both an ecological and environmental perspective, as well as a social one, as it allows those with fewer resources to access furniture and other useful items at low prices that they could not otherwise afford. The activity also includes distributing the association’s ecological and social impact report brochure to households in the area.
It is an experience of learning, exchange, and sharing about the Emmaus movement and current issues, the struggles, and the ideals to which it is committed.
It is an opportunity to gain insight into the local community through these activities, as well as through scheduled visits and field trips.
It is an important time to get involved in a stimulating environment to discover oneself and to uncover and nurture passions and commitment.

WHERE WE ARE: The community is located in BOVES (CN), approximately / km from the CUNEO train station
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING AND KNOW
Participation in the camp is entirely voluntary and free of charge; no participation fee is required, and no monetary compensation or reimbursement of expenses is provided. The camp covers shared room and board; participants are responsible for their own personal expenses.
Participants must be adaptable and willing to pitch in both within the community and during activities.
Most of the activities require a fair amount of physical effort and are not suitable for everyone; therefore, participants must be in good health. In all cases, organizers must be informed of any physical or other issues that may require special assistance, which the organizers cannot always guarantee.
At the camp, for obvious reasons related to hospitality and the needs of the people being hosted, participants must adhere to the community’s rules; in particular, the consumption of alcohol and any other type of substance in any form is prohibited, and participants must respect the community’s schedule and the activity’s timetable. In addition, volunteers will share meals, kitchen duty, house cleaning, and recreational spaces with the community members.
Everyone must bring their own sheets or sleeping bag, towels, and personal hygiene items. Every volunteer residing in Italy will be covered by accident and liability insurance. Volunteers coming from abroad must have their own personal insurance covering accidents, illness, and liability.
Other equipment: Each volunteer must provide their own safety shoes (required for most activities) and work gloves, as well as clothing suitable for the activity.
If you are coming from other Emmaus communities or have specific circumstances that require admission to a community, you must first contact the coordinators and follow the procedure outlined for such cases.
For participants from non-EU countries, each volunteer must independently obtain any necessary entry and residence visas; our organization will not assume any financial or administrative responsibility for the procedures required for this purpose.
